How to gather API key for Shopify stores

Overview / Introduction

This guide explains how to generate a Shopify API key and connect your Shopify store with wetracked.io Connect app. Follow the steps below to create your API key, add it to Shopify, and verify the connection.

Prerequisites:
Before proceeding with the installation, please ensure the following:

• ✅ You are logged in to the Shopify account you want to connect.
• ✅ You have your Ad pixel details ready for configuration.
• ✅ The wetracked.io Connect app is installed and is prompting you to generate an API key. (just like the photo below)

Step 1: Select Your Pre-Store or Store

• If your Shopify store hasn't been linked yet, you may see a pre-store displayed as a series of numbers instead of your store name.
• Select the pre-store to continue generating your API key. (see screenshot below)
• or select the name of your Shopify store instead in case you have connected it already before.

Step 2: Enabling the connection with Shopify

• Click Connect Now
• It will open up an option on how to Install our app on Shopify

Step 3: Click Install button

• Click the Install button
• A new browser tab will open and redirect you install our app again.
• Since you already install our app and is now asking you to enter API key. Just simply close the new tab and hit "Generate API key" via our web-app as shown on screenshot below

Step 4: Copy the API key and paste into Shopify

• Once you have copied the API key on last step, simply go back to our app on Shopify

1. Paste the API key on the API key field
2. Then save it aftewards

Step 5: Test the Connection

• After saving the API key in Shopify, return to the wetracked.io web-app.
• Click Test Connection to verify that your Shopify store has been connected successfully.
• If the test is successful, your Shopify store is now connected and ready to use with wetracked.io

• In case it does not show "Running", you can select "Re-sync" for it to ensure it work accordingly.

Very Important: Make sure Visitor Tracking is enabled.

1. Open the wetracked.io Connect app in Shopify.
2. If you see “Action Needed” under Visitor Tracking, click “Turn on app embed.”
3. Turn on the app embed and click Save.

If you don’t see “Action Needed,” Visitor Tracking is most likely already enabled.

Last step: Store review and activation

• Your store will now appear under Review Status on our app. Please allow some time for our team to review and activate your store.
• Rest assured, our team ensures all new store connections are handled promptly.
• You will receive an email notification for next steps and you will then again receive an email once the store activation is completed

Final notes

Once your Shopify store has been successfully integrated with wetracked.io, your data tracking setup will begin automatically.
