How to Fix "Item ID Mismatch" in Google Ads or Merchant Center?

This guide explains how to fix the "Item ID Mismatch" error in Google Ads or Google Merchant Center.



1. Understand the Issue


The error means Google cannot link your conversions to the correct products.

This happens when the Item IDs sent from wetracked.io don’t match the Item IDs in your Google Merchant Center feed.


To fix it, you need to:


  1. Find out which Item ID your Merchant Center uses.
  2. Update the Item ID Template inside your wetracked.io dashboard to match that format.



2. Find the Correct Item ID


Option A: Using Google Merchant Center


  1. Log in to Google Merchant Center.
  2. Go to Products → All Products.
  3. Click on any active product.
  4. Look for the Item ID field. This is the exact value Google expects.

Option B: Using Google Ads (If You Don’t Have Merchant Center Access)


  1. Open Google Ads.
  2. Go to Campaigns → Products.
  3. Click on a product to view its details.
  4. Take note of the Item ID value shown.

3. Update the Item ID Template in wetracked.io


  1. Log in to wetracked.io.
  2. Open your Store.
  3. Scroll down to Google Ads.
  4. Click the edit (pencil) icon.

In the Item ID Template section, set the format to match the Item ID format in your Google Merchant Center.


  • By default, wetracked.io uses Variant ID.
  • If your Merchant Center uses Variant IDs, no changes are needed.
  • If it uses a different format (e.g., Product ID), update the template accordingly.

If your Merchant Center uses Product ID, configure the Item ID Template to use Product ID as shown below.

4. Save Your Changes


Click Save after updating the template.


  • From now on, wetracked.io will send the correct Item IDs for all future conversions.
  • You do not need to reconnect Google Ads.
  • The change takes effect immediately.



5. Verify the Fix in Google Ads


  1. Go to Google Ads → Tools → Conversions → Purchase → Diagnostics.
  2. If the setup is correct, the “Item ID not recognized” warning will disappear within 24–48 hours.
