Google Ads integration (updated)

How to connect Google Ads Pixel

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for integrating your Google Ads

Before you proceed, make sure you are logged in to your Google Ads Manager.

  1. Navigate to the app dashboard, select your store platform (Shopify, WooCommerce, or Funnelish), and open the specific store where you want to integrate the Google Pixel.

  1. Once the store is open, scroll down to the Google Pixel section, enable it, and click “Add Pixel.” You will then be prompted to enter the required details, which you can obtain from your Google account.

(If you haven't linked the store yet, please ensure it was linked first)

  1. To get the details we needed. In Google Ads Manager, navigate to Goals > Summary, then select “New Conversion Action.” If you already have an existing conversion action, the option will appear as “Create New Conversion Action,” typically located on the right side of the page.

  1. Once redirected to the next page, you will see a configuration screen. Please ensure to follow steps below:
  • Select only “Google Tag” as the tag type. You can do this by clicking Edit > Scan the Web Page URL, then selecting Google Tag.
  • Make sure to Enter the correct Web Page URL (e.g., www.sample.com). You can modify this at any time by clicking the Edit button.
  • Click Save and Continue to proceed to the next step.

  1. Next, select a the Conversion action. We support the following conversion actions: Purchase, Add to Cart, Begin Checkout, and Pageview.
  • Since Google only allows the creation of one conversion action at a time, start by selecting “Purchase” and then click Save and Continue to proceed to the next step.

  1. After selecting “Purchase,” click “Add Conversion Action” and then choose “Google Tag” as the tracking method.

  1. At this stage, select “Set up manually using code”. Then, proceed by clicking “Conversion Settings” to further customize the conversion configuration.

  1. As for customizing the "Conversion settings"
  • Since we initially select Purchase **as our first conversion action. When customizing the **Conversion Settings, ensure that the conversion action is named “Purchase (wetracked.io)”. This will prevent confusion with other existing conversion actions, especially if you are using additional or other tracking tools.

  1. For the remaining options under Conversion Settings (Purchase), configure them as follows:
  • Value – Leave this as the default option “Use different values for each conversion”, as no further changes are typically required.
  • Count – Keep this set to “Every”, which is the default and recommended setting.
  • Enhanced Conversions – Ensure this is set to “Managed through Google Tag.” (Refer to the attached screenshot for reference.)
  • Once all settings are configured, click “Done” to complete the creation of the “Purchase” conversion action.

That's it for Purchase as " Conversion action", once you created it -- this is how it looks like:

After completing the Purchase conversion action setup, repeat the same process to create the remaining conversion actions: Add to Cart, Begin Checkout, and Pageview.

In total, you should have four (4) conversion actions configured:

  • Purchase
  • Add to Cart
  • Begin Checkout
  • Pageview

Add to Cart

When creating the Add to Cart conversion action:

  • Click “Add another category” and select “Add to Cart.”
  • Choose “Add Conversion Action” and then select your Google Tag.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts, and for the Name, enter “Add to Cart (wetracked.io)” to clearly distinguish it from other tracking tools.
  • For Value, select “Use different values for each conversion.”

Begin Checkout

When creating the Begin Checkout conversion action:

  • Click “Add another category” and select “Begin Checkout.”
  • Choose “Add Conversion Action” and then select your Google Tag.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts, and for the Name, enter “Begin Checkout (wetracked.io)” to differentiate it from other tracking tools.
  • For Value, select “Use different values for each conversion.”

Pageview

When creating the Pageview conversion action:

  • Click “Add another category” and select “Page View.”
  • Choose “Add Conversion Action” and then select your Google Tag.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts, and for the Name, enter “Page View (wetracked.io)” to clearly identify it.
  • For Value, select “Don’t use a value for this conversion action (not recommended).”

Once all four conversion actions have been created -- kindly save them and navigate to “Use Google Tag Manager.” From there, you will be able to view the necessary details — including the Conversion ID and Conversion Label for each conversion category — which you will need to input into our app.

Return to our app

Create the conversion actions by clicking “Add Conversion Actions.” In total there should be 4 Conversion action (see attached screenshot below)

Ensure that you accurately copy and paste all the Conversion Label values from Google Ads (screenshot above) into wetracked.io for each corresponding conversion category.

Hit "Add Pixel" then save it once you are done filling out the field on our app and also go back to Google to finish up the set up by clicking "Finish"

Step 10:

Add Shopify custom pixel (Shopify only). If you have WooCommerce, you can skip this step.

Please add the following custom pixel on Shopify👇. You can find the custom pixels section in the Shopify admin by navigating to Settings ⇢ Customer events.

!function(t,i,p,s){(o=p.createElement("script")).async=!0,o.src="https://pixel.wetracked.io/shopify-pixel.js?shop="+t.init.data.shop.myshopifyDomain,p.head.append(o),i.ctx=t,i["wt:options"]=s}(this,window,document,{});

Sanitary check: Despite completing the set up, your tracking will be more efficient if you follow the steps below

  1. Go to Goals > Summary in Google. This is where you can view the newly created Conversion Action from wetracked.io, as well as any existing Conversion Actions from other tracking tools.

  1. If you want to optimize specifically for Purchase or ensure that only Purchases are counted as Conversions in the Conversions dashboard, you must set Purchase as the Account default goal. To do this, click "Edit Goal" under the Purchase column.

  1. Then, select ✅ Use "Purchase" as account default goal. If you want wetracked.io to handle the optimization, choose ✅ Purchase (wetracked.io) as the Primary source and set other Purchase conversions to Secondary. (in case you have other tracking tool which you created a separate conversion action)
  • The reason for this step is to prevent data duplication. If there are two Primary sources assigned to the same Conversion Action (e.g., Purchase), both will be consolidated and displayed on the Conversions dashboard, which can be seen as over-tracking

  1. Kindly update the remaining Conversion Actions — Pageview, Add to Cart, and Begin Checkout. To do this, click "Edit" in the corresponding Conversion Action column for each. In this case, since **Purchase (wetracked.io) **is set as Account default, please follow the guide below.

Pageview (wetracked.io)

  • set this as "Do not use "Pageview" as an Account default goal
  • Make this as Primary action only.

Begin Checkout (wetracked.io)

  • set this as "Do not use "Begin Checkout" as an Account default goal
  • Make this as Primary action only.

Add to cart (wetracked.io)

  • set this as "Do not use "Add to Cart" as an Account default goal
  • Make this as Primary action only.

⚠️ In the event that you have set Pageview, Add to Cart and Begin Checkout as "Account default"

  • Please ensure that only wetracked.io (Purchased) is set as Primary
  • Pageview, Add To Cart and Begin checkout should always set as Secondary

  1. Once configuration is complete, your column should display Purchase as the Account Default Goal with Purchase (wetracked.io) as Primary and our Conversion action for Pageview, Add to Cart and Begin Checkout should be set as Primary

Note: If you are currently using another tracking tool, you may keep that source set as Primary. However, if you are already confident that wetracked.io provides more accurate data, you can update your settings and designate Purchase (wetracked.io) as the Primary tracking source under PURCHASE conversion action

Note: When you see the status of Conversion actions is still "Inactive" rest assured that this would be normal as it will turn as "Active" when you are receiving more data. Kindly give it some time to be calibrated.
