# How to gather API key for Shopify stores
# **Overview / Introduction**

This guide explains how to generate a Shopify API key and connect your Shopify store with **wetracked.io** **Connect app**. Follow the steps below to create your API key, add it to Shopify, and verify the connection.

**Prerequisites:**
Before proceeding with the installation, please ensure the following:
* ✅ You are **logged in** to the **Shopify account** you want to connect.
* ✅ You have your A**d pixel details** ready for configuration.
* ✅ The **wetracked.io** **Connect** app is installed and is prompting you to generate an API key. (just like the photo below)

## Step 1: Select Your Pre-Store or Store

* If your Shopify store hasn't been linked yet, you may see a **pre-store** displayed as a series of numbers instead of your store name.
* Select the pre-store  to continue generating your API key. (see screenshot below)

## Step 2: Enable **Connected with Shopify**

* Turn on the **Connected with Shopify** toggle.
* Once enabled, additional options will appear on the right side of the page.

## Step 3: Click **Install**

* Click the **Install** button.
* A new browser tab will open and redirect you to the **wetracked.io** **Connect** app installation page in Shopify.
* After the new tab opens, you can close it and return to the [wetracked.io](https://app.wetracked.io/) web-app to continue.

## Step 4: Generate and Copy Your API Key

* After returning to the  [wetracked.io](https://app.wetracked.io/) web-app, you'll see the option to generate an API key.
1. Click **Generate API Key**.
2. Copy the generated API key.

Keep this key handy—you'll need it in the next step.

## Step 5: Paste the API Key into Shopify

* Return to Shopify, where you're prompted to enter the API key.
1. Paste the API key you copied from WeTracked.io Connect.
2. Click **Save**.

The **Save** button is located near the top-center of the page.

## Step 6: Test the Connection

* After saving the API key in Shopify, return to the [wetracked.io](https://app.wetracked.io/) web-app.
* Click **Test Connection** to verify that your Shopify store has been connected successfully.
* If the test is successful, your Shopify store is now connected and ready to use with wetracked.io

## Last step: Store review and activation

* Your store will now appear under **Review Status** on our app. Please allow some time for our team to review and activate your store.
* Rest assured, our team ensures all new store connections are handled promptly.
* You will receive an **email notification** for next steps and you will then again receive an email once the store activation is completed
